Founder
The story of El Coco (GSL’s former name) began when founder, Mr. Leopoldo Estrellado happened to visit a manufacturing plant. Inspired by the idea of establishing his own business, he started El Coco Manufacturing & Trading Corp in 1985. The very first facility was located in the Southern part of Luzon then moved to Visayas when a typhoon hit Luzon and damaged most of the banana crops.
He eventually expanded to Davao, near premier banana plantations which guarantees a year-round supply of banana chips. The soil in Mindanao are exceptionally fertile and the climate is perfect which are ideal in bringing about the best banana for chips processing.
Having only 5 vats and producing 1-2 containers a week, Mr. Estrellado gambled to serve the growing banana chips market and the rest is history.
